Yeshua is Yehovah

The Shepherd

There was only one Yehovah-Raah “Yehovah the Shepherd” in the Old Testament, and Jesus is “The Shepherd” in the New Testament. Shepherds have one task – taking care of and feeding the lambs and the sheep! In John 21:15-17, Jesus requests Peter three times to look after His sheep.

There is a sense of responsibility for Apostles to “feed and take care of the lambs and the sheep” - and this responsibility can be delegated to church elders and deacons. The ratio is not identified but it must be realistic to allow for feeding and caring – a responsibility that should not be taken lightly or overlooked.

The shepherd and sheep analogy does not stop there – it includes the sheep pen which has a gate and a fence. John 10:9 says that Jesus is “The Gate” – there are no other gates into the pen! Apostles, elders and deacons are also tasked with the upkeep of the fence – if one sheep gets lost, Matt 18:10-14 advises what to do!
